Diagnostic Physicist – MRI

Since 1905, the Department of Radiology, Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR) has a long history of imaging and innovation, setting the standard for CT and MRI from the 1970s forward.
As a diagnostic medical physicist at MIR, you will support clinical, regulatory, and technical instrumentation for MRI, including MRI safety supervision and training of technologists. Additional participation in innovative MRI research is available.
Responsibilities:
Support the clinical operations of the MRI Service at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Children’s Specialty Care Center, and Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital
Maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements, such as the American College of Radiology MRI Accreditation Program (ACR MRAP) and the Joint Commission Diagnostic Imaging Standards for MRI.
Provide assistance and supervision in the evaluation and MRI scanning of patients with implanted devices
Develop and maintain training for technologists scanning implanted devices in the MRI environment
Supervise the program of MRI scanning of patients with cardiac implanted electronic devices (CIEDs), such as pacemakers and implanted cardiac defibrillators (ICDs)
Provide ongoing education to MRI technologists, radiology residents and fellows
Evaluate MRI workflow to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff members
Requirements:
PhD degree in Medical Physics or equivalent background in physics, engineering or related discipline
2 years of experience working in a clinical or human research MRI environment
Certified in one or more of the following
American Board of Radiology: Diagnostic Radiological Physics or Radiological Physics
American Board of Medical Physics: Diagnostic Imaging Physics or Magnetic Resonance Imaging Physics
Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine: Diagnostic Radiology Physics or Magnetic Resonance Imaging Physics
Or meets ACR requirements for MRI physicist/scientist
Preference given to candidates with additional training or certification in MRI Safety
