Pain Management Physician
We have an excellent opportunity for a pain management physician to join our interventional, multidisciplinary Pain Management Division, within the Department of Anesthesiology, Washington University, St. Louis. The mission of the Washington University Pain Center (https://pain.wustl.edu/) is to alleviate human suffering from pain through integration of research, education, and clinical practice. We hope you will join us in this endeavor!
Over the past few years, our Pain Management Division has undergone remarkable growth and we have plans for further program expansion. Our faculty currently includes 12 pain specialists (9 anesthesiology pain physicians, 2 pain psychologists, and 1 pain pharmacist). Our clinical work is spread across the St. Louis area: Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Missouri Baptist Medical Center, and Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital. We also provide inpatient pain management services at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Missouri Baptist Medical Center.
We need to expand our current faculty due to program growth expected in all of our outpatient practices, cancer pain management at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Missouri Baptist Medical Center, and the initiation of inpatient acute/chronic pain service at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital. In addition, there will be a new multidisciplinary Washington University Spine Center with collaboration between spine surgeons (Orthopedic and Neurosurgery), Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Pain Management, and Physical/Occupational Therapy. This new Spine Center is expected to increase spine surgical and associated clinical volumes, including interventional spine pain management. We have also had one faculty member leave clinical pain management practice to re-focus on OR anesthesiology. In addition to expanding our Pain Management faculty, we are expanding the role of mid-level providers (nurse practitioners) in our practice.
The available faculty position is for a board-certified/board-eligible pain specialist. This open rank position is available on either the tenure (research) or clinical track, with flexibility to pursue OR anesthesiology and/or research interests. New faculty members receive an initial two-year guarantee of salary and bonus, to ensure adequate income while establishing a practice, but there is also substantial opportunity for productivity-based compensation. Therefore, this position, as is standard in our Pain Division, offers the benefits of an academic career with productivity-based compensation.
